Assessing Uganda across SANEMAT's core pillars yielded an overall maturity score of 2.9 out of 5.0. While market supply scores relatively well (3.0/5.0), household demand significantly lags (1.8/5.0) due to affordability and awareness constraints.
By mapping local market conditions, SANEMAT exposed a sharp contrast in sanitation access and infrastructure between communities. Rural regions face severe supply chain bottlenecks compared to more developed urban centers.
SANEMAT isn't just a national tool it also works at the local level. Applied in Kabarole District, the assessment provided a detailed picture of local sanitation market conditions and identified priority actions for district-level investment, planning and policy.
